Hidden inside the Canyonlands National Park's Island in the Sky District is an immease alcove with a circle of rocks that resemble a kiva. The name, False Kiva, gives you the feeling that the kiva is not authentic but merely a circle of rocks built in the 1950's. The hike to the False Kiva is via a hidden and little known trail. You must ask the park rangers for directions to the trail's start. If you allow enough time to remain inside the alcove after sunset, you will need a headlamp for the hike back to your vehicle. The hike can be dangerous near the alcove due to the steepness of the cliff. Authentic or not, the False Kiva is a special location with a spectacular view.
