Just south of Ouray, Colorado on the Million Dollar Highway is a reservior. I got there a few minutes before 9 am and joined another photographer who seemed to know the area well. He told me nothing happens with the lighting until 9 am when the sunlight hits the western slope with all the aspen. The wind came up a few minutes later and the reflection was lost.
